Verónica Castro Ravelo, (1959), geboren in Santiago, Chili, groeide op in een muzikale familie. Haar moeder speelde piano, orgel en zong in de kerk maar zong altijd thuis, zo werd de muziek voor Verónica een dagelijkse ervaring.

Op haar 10de werd Verónica geselecteerd om muziek te studeren in een project van muziekdocenten aan de Universiteit van Chili en heeft deelgenomen als contrabassist in de “Jeugd Symfonisch Orkest van Antofagasta”, onder leiding van Rafael Ramos Vivar. Ze reisde door heel Chili en Peru, deed mee aan concerten en heeft deelgenomen aan festivals van jeugdorkesten van klassieke muziek.

Op haar 15de reist ze naar Buenos Aires, daar ontdekt ze haar stem, de Zuid-Amerikaanse folklore en met haar moeder, suster Jacqueline en broer Nahum begint ze te zingen in de bekende “San Telmo” tangobuurt.

Met 17 jaar reist Verónica met haar familie naar Nederland en met verschillende formaties treedt ze op in Nederland en België. Ze doet mee aan Festivals in Zweden, Denemarken, Spanje en België.

Verónica zong gedichten van Federico García Lorca met muziek en onder leiding van Louis Andriessen.

Ze heeft diverse culturele activiteiten en concerten georganiseerd, met bekende Zuid-Amerikaanse en Nederlandse artiesten.

Verónica trad op met prominente artiesten en heeft deelgenomen aan diverse CD opnames en concerten met haar stem, gitaar, cuatro venezolano en percussie, o.a. met Hernán Ruíz, Ricardo Insunza, José Lopretti, Enrique Casanova, Jacqueline Castro, Ricardo Mendeville, Marcos di Paolo, Marco Toro, Rosset van Oss, Albet Ramos, Roberto Liescke, Miguel Padrón, Marcos Gomez, Rudy Albano, Juan Caballero, Ruven Ruppik, Elías General, Marcos Baggiani.

Ze trad op in diverse podia o.a. Paradiso, Melkweg, De Soeterijn, De Meervaart, Concertgebouw, Krasnapolsky, , en in Vondelpark Festival (Amsterdam), De Doelen (Rotterdam), “Poetrypark en Centrale Bibliotheek (Rotterdam) en zong ook in het Europees Parlement.

Ze deed mee aan verschillende televisie programma’s zoals “Telekids”, “Er is Meer tussen hemel en aarde” van de KRO, “Hotel Poggibonsi” van Bert Visscher, “Hessels Herberg” en “IKONHUIS” van KRO.

Zij zong met haar zus Jacqueline in Hotel ” Dar Ali ” op het vakantie-eiland Djerba, Tunesië .

Momenteel werkt ze aan een project “Kunst Suite” van de “Regenboog Groep Amsterdam” waar allerlei activiteiten worden georganiseerd voor daklozen en mensen met psychische en psychiatrische problemen. In 2011, in samen werking met een aantal daklozen heeft ze de “Makom Mokum Band” opgericht met een repertoire met eigen nummers.

Verónica heeft in 2016 haar eerste CD opgenomen “Madrigal de ausencias” (Madigaal van Afwezigheid), met José Lopretti (piano), Elias General (bass), Matias Pedrana (Bandoneon), Marcos Baggiani (percussie en drums) en onder leiding van Hernán Ruíz
(gitaar en arrangementen), musici uit de wereld van de Jazz, Tango, Salsa en Rock. Allemaal ervaren artiesten die traditionele instrumenten als de bandoneon, cuatro, cajón en bombo combineren met de piano, bas, drums, elektrische gitaar. Dit project werd voor een deel gesponsord door de bekende talentvolle Nederlandse singer-songwriter Hessel van der Kooij en werd ook gesteund door Guido Attema, hij heeft jarenlang voor IKON televisie gewerkt als internetredacteur/programmeur/ontwerper. Hij heeft kosteloos een videoclip gemaakt van de cd opname in de studio om die als promotiemateriaal te gebruiken.

Haar repertoire bestaat uit de Cubaanse Son, Bolero, Tango, Chacarera, Zamba, Samba en typische ritmes uit Venezuela, Chili en Mexico.

Nacida el 23 mayo de 1959 Santiago, Chile.

Empezó su camino musical en 1969, fue seleccionada para estudiar en la “Escuela Experimental Artísitica”, un proyecto de profesores de música de la Universidad de Chile, allí participó como contrabajista desde 1969 hasta 1975 en la “Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Antofagasta”, bajo la dirección del maestro Rafael Ramos Vivar. Viajó por todo el territorio chileno y parte del Perú dando conciertos y participando en festivales de Orquestas juveniles de música clásica.

En 1975 viaja a Argentina, descubre su voz y así comienza su investigación en la música folklórica latinoamericana, cantando con su madre Elisa, su hermana Jacqueline y su hermano Nahúm, en diversas peñas del famoso Barrio “San Telmo” en Buenos Aires.

En 1977 viaja a Holanda, allí trabaja en diferentes grupos de música latinoamericana, da conciertos en salas de teatro, festivales y peñas en todo el país, también participa en festivales en Suecia, Dinamarca, España y Bélgica.

Fue invitada a cantar poemas de Federico García Lorca músicalizada por el famoso compositor holandés Louis Andriessen.

Fue invitada a cantar al Parlamento Europeo.

Durante años organizó actividades culturales como peñas y conciertos, con destacados músicos latinoamericanos y holandesdes, difundiendo la cultura y música de su continente.

Desde el año 2007 trabaja en un proyecto llamado “Kunst Suite” (“La Suite del Arte”), en el “De Regenboog Groep Amsterdam” que va dirigido a vagabundos y personas con problemas psíquicos y psiquiátricos, desarrollando con esto ramas del arte como la pintura, música y trabajos manuales. En el año 2011 organiza con un grupo ellos un proyecto de música con repertorio de canciones y arreglos propios, proyectándose para en el futuro grabar un CD.

En el 2016 grabó su primer CD “Madrigal de ausencias” con José Lopretti (piano), Elias general (bajo), Matías Pedrana (Bandoneón), Marcos Baggiani (percusión y batería), bajo la dirección de Hernán Ruíz (guitarra y arreglos). Todos músicos prominentes del mundo del Jazz, Tango, Salsa, Latin, Rock, artistas con una larga trayectoria profesional que combinan instrumentos tradicionales como el cuatro, el cajón y el bombo, el bandoneón, con el piano, bajo, batería y guitarra eléctrica. Este proyecto está patrocinado por el famoso cantautor holandés Hessel van der Kooij y también por Guido Attema, quien durante años ha trabajado en la estación de televisión holandesa “IKON”, como redactor/programador/diseñador. Él hizo un videoclip de la grabación en el estudio, sus imágenes serán utilizadas como material de promoción.

El repertorio de “Madrigal de ausencias” se compone del Son cubano, Bolero, Vals Peruano, Tango, Chacarera, Zamba, Samba y ritmos típicos de Venezuela, Chile y México .

Veronica Castro Ravelo started making music in 1969, playing doublebass with a Children Classical Orchestra lead by maestro Rafael Ramos Vivar, till 1975 and traveled in Chile and part of Peru giving concerts and participating in festivals of youth orchestras of classical music.

In 1975 she traveled to Argentina and discovered her voice and begun her research in the Latin American folk music, singing with her mother Elisa, her sister Jacqueline and her brother Nahum in “Peñas” in the famous ” San Telmo ” neighborhood in Buenos Aires.

In 1977 she traveled to Holland where she worked with her sister Jacqueline and her brother Nahum in different groups of Latin American music, giving concerts in theaters, festivals and clubs, also she participated in festivals in Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Belgium.

She was invited to sing poems of Federico Garcia Lorca with music and lead by the famous Dutch composer Louis Andriessen .

For years she organized cultural activities such as “Peñas” and concerts with prominent Latin American and Dutch musicians, spreading the culture and music of their continent.

She has also sung in various ensembles such as “Neltume”, “Afán”, Real de Guitarreros”, “Verónica y su Medicina”, “Típico Tampoco”, “21’3 grms” and has sung with prominent musicians in the world of Jazz, Salsa, Bossa Nova, Tango, Rock, Folklore and Flamenco such as Hernán Ruiz, Ricardo Insunza, José Lopretti , Enrique Casanova , Jacqueline Castro, Gabriela Pizarro, Ricardo Mendeville, Macos di Paolo, Marco Toro, Rosset van Oss, Albet Ramos, Roberto Liescke, Miguel Padron, Marcos Gomez, Axel Prudencia, Rudy Albano, Juan Caballero, Ruven Ruppik, Michael Rorby, among others.

During 10 years she sung in duet with her sister Jacqueline, travelling to different countries in Europe, South America and Africa.

Over the years, she sung in several theaters such as Paradiso , Melkweg , De Soeterijn , De Doelen, De Meervaart, Concertgebouw, Krasnapolsky, Vondelpark Festival ( Amsterdam), Centrale Bibliotheek (Rotterdam), Poetrypark (Rotterdam), among others.

She has performed in the European Parliament, lead by Ricardo Insunza (guitar and arrangements) and Peter Bjornild (doublebass)

She has sung several times on television programs such as ” Telekids”, “Er is Meer tussen hemel en Aarde”, “Hotel Poggibonsi” van Bert Visscher, “Hessels Herberg” and “IKONHUIS”.

She traveled and worked in Djerba, Tunisia. She sung with her sister Jacqueline, in Hotel ” Dar Ali”.

Since 2007 she is working on a project called “Kunst Suite” (“The Suite of Art”) in “De Regenboog Groep Amsterdam” which is aimed at the homeless and people with mental health problems, to develop branches of art such as painting and music, not only as a therapeutic way of using time, but also to strengthen contact with the outside world, organizing a group of them since 2011 a project of music with repertoire of their own songs and arrangements, the idea is in the future to make a CD recording
